BUFFALO BARBECUE BACKGROUND

It all started with a reason for doing a service project almost fifty years ago. The question was: "What kind of project?"

There were all kinds of ideas, but unfortunately there was not one to which the boys could relate. Finally, after endless searching for the right kind of project, someone made a wild attempt to be funny and came up with the idea of a BUFFALO HUNT!

Thanks to that kind of brainstorming, our hugely successful BUFFALO BARBECUE began.

This endeavor has become one of the most organized and successful fund-raising projects for a Boy Scout Troop in the history of Scouting.

The BUFFALO BARBECUE is genuine rolled roast of American Bison (ranch-raised and grain-fed), served with Barbecue Sauce and a wide variety of other side dishes with enticing names derived from recent Troop campouts and activities. Parents, alumni and friends of Troop 410 team up to produce this ambitious project, and the Scouts themselves serve the meal.

The BARBECUE doesn’t just happen. It takes a great deal of careful planning and many willing hands to make it a success. Enough roasts are ordered from South Dakota to serve a minimum of 1,000 guests. Twenty gallons of barbecue sauce, over 1,000 potatoes, six gallons of salad dressing, and 100 pounds of lettuce are prepared for the hungry crowd.

The public is invited to help raise money for Troop 410 by supporting the BUFFALO BARBECUE!
